For a first time user, this is perfect. Easy setup and very comfortable. This has permanently replaced my tent. And made a lot of friends jealous.
Have not had a chance to use it yet. I bought it to keep on my jeep hoping to get a chance.
I have used the hammock eight nights and can say that I am very happy... and this is coming from a 6’4” 350lb guy! My only complaint is that the compression strap on the outside of the bag is already coming off, it seems like poor stitching. Not a big problem, but I was surprised. I still haven’t found the best way to use the swagman roll as an under quilt but that is for another day.
I've had this out in the woods 4 times now. I am just getting started with hammocking. For a beginner, the price was great and the quality for price is outstanding. Don't think I'll need to "upgrade" any time soon! Highly recommend this hammock
The money in this setup is in the hammock/netting and the tree straps. Yes, I have wider straps, but the reinforced stitching on these straps convinces me to pack them for the field. The ridgeline is a cotton cord that won't last long. (So what? Everyone reading this should own spools of paracord anyway). The carabiners don't seem to be climbing-grade, but they don't need to be. (postscript - I compared them to climbers, and short of the very expensive lightweights, the bundled carabiners' weight is a fraction of replacement options. On first use, they seem fine and capable beyond the load I'll be putting on them. The carrying bag with a compression strap is a bonus.
Now, I'm a tent person. I like having bug-free room to move about; however, tents are heavier, bulkier, take (a little) longer to set up, and don't get your body off the ground. Additionally, a tent can sometimes have condensation issues. The Pathfinder hammock deploys quickly, and you can use a swagman as the under-padding or extra clothes - less pack weight, less space, and less fuss.
As funds permit, I'm going to grab more of these, store them in my car, workplace, and anywhere I might need a reliable rapid deploy sleeping/shelter solution.
My concerns are limited. The woodland brown blends into the background perfectly. However, if you require rescue, that's not an advantage. I suggest packing a blaze orange tarp (as long as you recognize those are disposable and won't stand up to the abuse the actual Pathfinder tarp can take. I found the brown ridge line is easy to lose should it fall to the ground. Fluorescent orange paracord might be a good call unless you're trying to disappear.
This hammock is very good value for the money, especially considering online cheap-o's are barely $15 less and constructed using tissue paper and thin thread. The SRO online store consistently beats Bezos' pricing, plus you're supporting a small business worthy of our love. Buy the right gear; your butt is depending on it.
